What does an End of Life Doula do?
An End of Life Doula can be a lot of things depending on the needs of the community. I'm kind of a project manager, essentially. Going through medical transition or healing from an injury is a lot to manage on top of regular household upkeep. I can help run errands, meal planning and prep, take notes at medical appointments, be a point of contact, essentially handling some of the nitty gritty so folks can focus on what's important. I also offer companionship, compassion, patient advocacy, and I am honored to amplify celebrations and help carry the weight of grief.
About Brianna
My name is Brianna Pizarek I grew up in small town Indiana and went to college for Theater at Indiana State University. I married my high school sweetheart, Colin in 2009 at Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin on a gorgeous August morning. We have two kids, Milo age 13, and Ada age 10 and cats Bert and Dot. I’ve been a stay at home mom in the Chicago suburbs since 2012. As a family we love traveling and trying new things, new foods, seeing plays, making music, walking and swimming in nature, telling stories and making art.
I enjoy knitting and spinning, growing vegetables, fruits and herbs, and native plants in my garden, and occasionally arguing with my sewing machine. I love traveling with my family from the Fjords of Norway to desert pueblos in Arizona.
I’m always up for a beautiful walk in the woods.
Telling The Bees
In Western European history, bees were considered to be an integral part of the household, supplying necessary honey and wax for candles. The practice was developed to inform the bees of any major shifts in the household, arrivals and departures, weddings, births, and deaths.
It was believed that if you didn’t tell them, they might abandon the hives.
Telling the bees is a way of acknowledging our connection to nature, and creating a ritual for processing joy and grief.
